What did it mean when Moe said he was helped by awe within a month's journey and made victorious with terror? Can it mean anything else that people within a radius equal to the distance he could cover in a month were scared witless of him and their terror enabled him to conquer them?

How did the slave of Allah terrorize his victims?

He built a well deserved reputation for barbarian rapine.
He dictated and dispatched threatening extortion letters.
He sent his henchmen to assassinate critics.

The slave of Allah besieged a Jewish settlement for two weeks, when they surrendered, he slaughtered all the men and adolescent boys and enslaved their widows, mothers and siblings. Refresh your memory by re-reading 33:26-27 before reading the relevant hadith.

Moe burned the date palm plantation to terrorize another Jewish tribe Get a clue from the commentary on 59:2 in the Ma'ariful Qur'an.

al-Waqidi compiled the most extensive collection of Moe's threatening extortion letters. The story begins here.
The most explicit of them was sent to the Christian rulers of a port city in Jordan. I want you to read it and curse Isdamn for it is evil!

Ibn Sa'd 307

Do you damn near comprehend that? Moe told the rulers of Aqaba what he intended to do to them and why. He ordered them to embrace Isdamn or pay extortion. Otherwise he would kill them and enslave their orphans. read it and read it again until reality sinks in!!! Moe terrorized people by threatening them with pillage, plunder and slavery.

Moe also wrote to some who were in the process of conversion. He informed them of their privileges and duties. These two excerpts come from page 300

They said: The Apostle of Allah, may Allah bless him, wrote 'azid lbn
al-Tufayl al-Harithi that the whole of al-Maddah would be his and no one
would dispute with him as long as he continued to offer prayers, pay
zakáh and fight against the heathens. Juhaym Ibn al-Salt had scribed it.

They said: The Apostle of Allah, may Allah bless nim wrote to Banu
Ziyad Ibn al-Harith and other persons of the tribe of al-Harith, that they
would retain Jammá and Adhnibah and they would be safe there as long
as they offered prayers, paid zakàh and fought the heathens. 'Ali had
scribed it.

It is not sufficient that you be terrorized and convert to Islam, you must then do it to others.

One crucial verse in Surah Al-Anfal seems obscure at first glance. It will be explained in a subsequent installment.

8:57. So if you gain the mastery over them in war, punish them severely in order to disperse those who are behind them, so that they may learn a lesson.

One conquered community is to serve as a warning to their neighbors: barbarian rapine to terrorize the next victims. The slave of Allah, damnation be upon him, suborned the murders of poets who had criticized him in verse. Others were terrified as a result. One Arab tribe converted out of terror.
